As we have known, thanks to the research team of La Sexta, has been detected the arrival of Aedes albopictus or also known as “Mosquito Tiger” in Spain.
This insect, originally from Southeast Asia, is spreading all over the world and is triggering health alarms in Europe.
Three cases of dengue have already been recognized by the bite of this mosquito in our country, and is that the bite of this insect is not like that of a normal mosquito, as it injects poison and with its saliva introduces the virus in our body, Other serious diseases that can be transmitted are Zika, Chikungunya or yellow fever.
The ports in Spain are one of the main routes of introduction of invasive animal species, according to the news, this mosquito variety arrived hidden in a container of tires from Asia, arriving to disembark in Barcelona.
Expansion of the tiger mosquito in Spain
In recent years the presence of the tiger mosquito has spread throughout the Mediterranean coast, as we can see below:
They sting at any time of the day, including the night, they are attracted to the dark tones and their sting can pierce the clothes, apart from detecting the corporal heat and the CO2 that we expire by nature.
With a length of between 5 and 10 mm, one of the main differences of this mosquito with the rest of its species to be able to recognize it is its black color with a particular white stripe on its thorax, it also has striped legs.
The bite of the tiger mosquito is not annoying at first, but as the days go by, it evolves worse. A single bite can cause discomfort, nausea, dizziness or fever that can lead to the need to go to the hospital. In Spain last year three cases of autochthonous dengue were detected.
Prevention and Protection
As slow down their progress is still in the process of study, it is highly recommended to monitor and remove the stagnant water that we have around our house, as well as to clean the weeds, since they are the humid places where these insects reproduce.
The placement of mosquito nets on windows and doors and the use of insecticides are one of the most effective methods of prevention and protection at present, although there are also specific treatments to scare off insects thanks to their repellent odor.
